About Us

Our History

Founded in 1931 the Hexham Amateur Stage Society has been delighting Northumbrian audiences for over 80 years. Over the years the society has performed in church halls and school stages before finding a home on the Queen’s Hall stage in 1983 where we’ve been performing ever since.
Musical Theatre has always been at the heart of the society. From our first production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers in 1932 to our most recent productions; we pride ourselves on providing top quality musical entertainment to thousands of people every year.

Since its inception, the society has provided a platform for local singers, dancers and actors to display and develop their talents in a nurturing and friendly atmosphere, many of whom have come back year after year to take part or support our productions.

The society is lead by a management committee who are elected at the Annual General Meeting held in January. The management committee selects our future shows, organises the production of each show from the hiring of the set and costumes to creating the advertising, and liaises with other organisations and groups to raise money for charity.

The current management committee consists of;
